Chevrolet Cruze Review

What a suprise!

GM is finally making a good small car (shock). This is a good thing for GM who really needs a good compact car that can compete well against Civics and Corollas. GM has actually put major effort into producing a car that many people will love.

This is not like the previous small car models from Chevy (like the Colbat and the Cavalier). This one is made to compete and beat all other models.

I believe that the styling on this car is just amazing. The Cruze will be very competitive (or even better) than it's rivals in it's segment. The front end of this car looks aggressive and powerful. The back is impressive with it's wide stance. I think the Cruze looks great from all angles.

Performance and Powertrains

The Cruze LS will be powered by a 1.8 liter inline-4 that gets 136 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. The Cruze LS Eco, the LT, and the LTZ will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4 liter inline-4 that will generate 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. You will be able to get 6-speed automatic transmissions on all models (on the LS/LS Eco you also have an option for a 6-speed manual).

You should expect the acceleration from 0-60 to be around 9-10 seconds (which is about average for the other cars in it's class). The EPA rates the Cruze at 40mpg but recent reports say that the Cruze will be able to get 45mpg (either way it is great gas mileage).

Safety

The 2011 Cruze will come standard with stability control, antilock brakes, full-length side curtain airbags, rear side impact airbags, and front knee airbags. In all there are 10 airbags.

Interior Design

GM has really hit the interior of the all new 2011 Cruze spot on. It has a "twin cockpit" design similar to the design in the Chevy Equniox crossover. The interior is well put together and everything seems to flow very well. It has a two tone color scheme to give it a more upscale look.

Special Features

The Cruze's truck space is certainly above average for it's class. It measures an amazing 15 cubic square feet which is a lot more compared to the 12 cubic square feet of space in the trunk of a Civic.

The front seats in the Cruze are very comfortable with many options to adjust. In the cabin you have enough room for anyone to be comfortable (it is about average in it's segment). The steering wheel scopes and tilts to provide ease for basically everyone.

Other things is that you can have an option for a built in GPS which can be very useful.

My overall thoughts on this car

I honestly think that this car is better than the other cars in this segment when it comes to style (and maybe performance). If you are looking for a small, premium car, the Cruze would be perfect for you. Since this is a new car, we won't really know how the resale value will be 4 or 5 years down the road, we will just have to wait and see on that. If I were looking for a car in this segment I would definitely take a look at the 2011 Chevy Cruze.

I've never been a big Chevy fan, but I've frown to love the Cruze after reading a review on the Johnny Londoff Chevrolet blog. It has a surprising amount of style and sport for a car in its class and I definitely can't knock the MPGs.
